Violent taxi passenger jailed after wielding a weapon

A 40-year-old man has been jailed following a violent assault on a taxi driver in Coventry.

Artur Nowostawski pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon at Warwick Crown Court on August 6 and was sentenced six years and nine months.

This follows the attack on April 29, when Nowostawski attacked the driver with a knife in the neck and chest numerous times demanding money after being picked up at Coventry Railway Station.

Following the assault the West Midlands Police issued a wanted appeal for the attacker and an arrest was made a day later.

DC Jack Phillips from Coventry CID, said: “This was an unprovoked and sustained assault which left the victim with serious injuries

“They were lucky not to be more seriously hurt, and are now thankfully on the road to recover.

“I’m glad he has been put behind bars for a significant period of time.”
